MASON, Ohio – The Cincinnati Open, formerly known as the Western & Southern Open, will advance to the Round of 16 on Friday, with some of the ATP and WTA No. 1 players taking the field.
Friday’s revised order of play has been finalized when play resumes at the Lindner Family Tennis Center at 12:30 p.m
Some of the world’s best players will be in action on Friday, including No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz, who resumes his match with France’s Gael Monfils in the second round. World number one Jannik Sinner will face Australia’s Jordan Thompson for a quarter-final spot, and former Cincinnati Open champion Alexander Zverev will face rising Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta during the day.
After several ranked WTA players crashed out of the tournament in the round of 32, two of them will face off for a spot in the quarterfinals as No. 1 Iga Swiatek takes on No. 15 Marta Kostyuk. World No. 6 Jessica Pegula, who is chasing a second consecutive National Bank title, will play her first match in the round of 32 against Karolina Muchova.

Aryna Sabalenka sharp again
Three-time Cincinnati Open semifinalist, world No. 3 Aryna Sabalenka has not dropped a set at Mason so far this week after a 7-5, 6-2 win over Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina at the P&G Grandstand on Friday.
Ben Shelton scored a historic victory
After Sinner’s victory, 21-year-old Ben Shelton (world No. 14), who moved to Center Court, became the youngest American to reach the Cincinnati quarterfinals since 2017 with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Hungary’s Fabian Marozsani.
Jessica Pegula wins Cincinnati’s opener
A quick turnaround after the Canadian championship didn’t stop world number six Jessica Pegula from shining on an overcast afternoon in Cincinnati. Originally scheduled to play on Center Court on Thursday night, Pegula returned on Court 7 on Friday and defeated Karolina Muchova 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 in a match that lasted 2 hours and 16 minutes.
Pegula will face American qualifier and Wimbledon doubles champion Taylor Townsend at Stadium 3 on Friday night.
Felix Auger-Aliassime advances to the round of 16
World number 19 Felix Auger-Aliassime needed just 66 minutes to beat Casper Rudd 6-3, 6-1 on Friday to reach the last 16 later tonight.

Fans hoping to see both world No. 1s in action on Center Court Friday won’t get their wish. ATP No. 1 Jannik Sinner advanced automatically to the quarterfinals of the Cincinnati Open on Saturday after his opponent, Jordan Thompson of Australia, withdrew with a rib injury.
Andrei Rublev continues his ATP 1000 success
World number 6 Andrey Rublev has risen to the occasion this season. The 26-year-old is the first member of the tour to play in multiple ATP Masters 1000 finals this season (Madrid, Montreal). Iga Swiatek advances to the quarterfinals
In the four games he won this week at Mason, Iga Swiatek has surrendered a total of just six games. The world number one opened play on Friday with a dominant 6-2, 6-2 victory over 15th-ranked Marta Kostyuk on Center Court.
